Engendering Gender

Gender in the workplace is often a source of differences and tension. There are times, for example, when workplace cultures and policies that discourage the contribution of female employees to the organization. For example, I know of an employer who avoids hiring young women because they are more likely to get pregnant in the near future.

We should combat these behaviours by discouraging sexism and toxicity in the workplace. Employers and employees should clearly communicate and establish the culture and environment of their workplace. This should be one that prioritizes professionalism and results, regardless of the identity and personal attributes of the employees.
